What is a Soft 404?

A soft 404 returns HTTP 200 even though the page is effectively “not found” or empty.

Search engines detect soft 404s and may still treat the URL like an error. Typical causes: empty filter pages, dead parameter URLs, or “no results” templates. Prefer real 404/410, sensible redirects, or noindex.
