Glossary

What does nofollow mean?

nofollow (rel="nofollow") signals that a link should not be treated as an editorial endorsement.

Google treats nofollow, sponsored, and ugc as hints. Useful for untrusted UGC, ads, and paid links. Internal navigation links should usually stay dofollow so crawl paths and authority can flow.
